At the lake

Colin said to me today, "Mommy, how can kids have so much fun in one day!"

That's what summer vacation is all about.

Omnivores

We have been talking a lot about the word "vegetarian" because my children just watched Shark Tales, the story of a vegetarian shark.

So, I have explained that in real life all sharks are carnivores. "In fact," I joked, "in fact, they are fishatarians."

Colin said with enthusiasm -- "I'm an everything-atarian!"

Spoilers (sort of)

I was just re-reading The Half-Blood Prince, so I have Harry Potter on the brain. Here are my predictions for the last book. Jimmy, if you want to stop reading here, then you have a great deal of faith in my powers of precognition!

Here goes...
  • RAB is Regulus Black, Sirius' brother
  • Three of the four remaining horcruxes are at Sirius' mansion (the other horcrux, of course, is Nagini the snake).
  • Kreacher knows where they are.
  • Snape did not betray the Order. He killed Dumbledor on his own order, in order to protect Draco and so that Snape could continue spying on Voldemort.
  • Snape hates Harry because Snape was in love with Harry's mother. Snape feels that Lily didn't have to die, that she shouldn't have sacrificed herself for Harry.
  • Also, looking at Harry, who resembles his father, reminds him that Lily chose James instead of him.
  • It was the guilt of having led Voldemort to kill Lily that led Snape to switch sides.

That's all I've got worked out... and it's a loooong time 'til the next book, so by the time the next book comes out, you will all have forgotten what I said and I won't be able to say "I told you so."

To Pee or Not To Pee...

That is the question.

Whether it is wiser to suffer the frustration and messy pants
resulting from allowing Colin to choose when he will go,
and thereby allowing him to learn from failure...
OR to take arms against the problem to prevent a sea of wee-wee,
and by reminding, teach him.
Ay, there's the rub; for if he is reminded, what will happen
when we have ceased reminding?

The patient merit of the Mom breaks
When he himself might his poopy make
And presents me with his bare bodkin!
