The Dogs

This entry was supposed to be about the dogs and their destructoid habits, but I find I am not yet in a place where I can see the humor. Check back in a decade or two.

When Girls Geek Out

Our family has more than it's share of guys who geek out over gadgets, but a recent conversation with some friends reminded me that girls can "geek out" too.

Mother's Day resulted in major ohhing and ahhing over Debbi's new iPad, my new Keurig coffee maker (virtually instant and no clean up!), and Kari's exceptionally cool cookie jar shaped like a Tardis.

But the conversation really heated up when we learned that one of our pal's had the ultimate in Girl Gadgets...the Blendtec blender. This baby (demonstrated at www.willitblend.com) costs $400 and up and is featured in infomercials that show it's ability to blend an iPod, a rake, and other improbable items. Since my blender won't make a decent smoothie, I had serious blender envy. Our gal pal racked up serious cool points that day, despite admitting that she almost never actually uses the thing.

This isn't the first time Kari and I have bonded over geeky girl toys. One of our first conversations revolved around our mutual love of scrapbooking. I was wearing a scrapbooking t-shirt and a revoltingly gushy conversation followed:
"Oh My God! Do you scrapbook?" (squeal)
"Yes! Do you?" (squeal)
"We should totally get together and scrap!" (squeal)
And then Kari laid down her credentials. "Dude, you should come to my house. I have a Cricut," she says and then waits for the accolades to start. I didn't disappoint.
"You do! Oh my God! That is sooooo cool. You are the most awesome!"
More squealing, plus jumping up and down ensued.
This was later trumped by another friend who now owns a Silhouette.
Kari is so pwned.
